MAN has invented duel turbocharging engine, MAN 18 V 48/60 TS. Each engine has two turbocharger, one is high pressure and another is low pressure. Earlier it had one turbocharger and now it has two. Due to duel turbocharging system, heat rate decreases,ie with same quantity of fuel, KWhr generation increases than earlier. Due to duel turbocharging system, it become fuel economy. Fuel efficiency increases 3% than earlier. First they supplied TS series to Indonesia and now supplying to Bangladesh. They have declared 176 gm fuel per Kw-hr.
This is a very challenging situation in power market. Because entrepreneur always wants to use less fuel for fixed amount of generation. Because it is cost effective. Because it is efficient.
Wartsila is another giant in power market. They are leading competitor. It is said that Wartsila is playing a tricky game for declaration of heat rate. The Wärtsilä 50DF engine operates on the lean-burn principle. Lean combustion enables a high compression ratio, which in turn enhance engine efficiency, decrease peak temperatures, and therefore also decrease NOx emissions.It is also a tale that DF series of Wartsila will defeat MAN 18 V 48/ 60 TS series.
Whatever is the declaration is that, no series is proven with fuel consumption. We have to wait more six months for practical report from field.
